Thornbury is located in southern
Ontario in the
Southern Georgian Bay area. Originally incorporated as a town in 1833, Thornbury amalgamated with the town of
Collingwood in 2001 to become part of The Blue Mountains. Thornbury is an ideal place to visit year-round as it is a haven for those who enjoy outdoor recreational pursuits. The waterfront town is on the
Georgian Bay, which offers boating and fishing opportunities. Cycling is also a popular activity in the area, which is home to many trails such as the
Georgian Trail and the
Grey County Cycling Routes.
Little River Beach Park is a local beach ideal for a family outing, while golf enthusiasts can play a round of golf at one of the nearby golf courses. During the winter months, visitors can spend the day skiing at the
Georgian Peaks Ski Club or enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the Georgian Trail. Popular annual events include the
Peak to Shore Music Fest and the
Georgian Sound Festival featuring music, food and fun. The Thornbury area is also a prominent apple growing area and this is celebrated in the annual
Apple Harvest Festival. Thornbury is home to the
Leonard E. Shore Memorial Library, which features a unique architectural design.
